The winstubs

Winstubs are part and parcel of life in Alsace. They are traditional restaurants where you eat Alsatian dishes with a glass or two of wine. Winstubs are a combination of wine bar and restaurant offering good value for money and as such, constitute one of the most interesting features of Alsatian gastronomy. Here, you dine in a warm atmosphere sitting around wooden tables covered with red chequered tablecloths. The friendly atmosphere is greatly appreciated by the Alsatians themselves and you will enjoy simple, but authentic, dishes. The savours of bygone days are kept alive in the Winstubs, and you can also sample dishes such as potato rösti (galettes de pommes de terre), liver quenelles, baeckeoffe and sauerkraut (choucroute).
