To the south and south-west of Strasbourg (10 to 30 minutes by car), hotels and restaurants offer affordable speciality sauerkraut dishes (choucroute) throughout the year, whatever the season. The region is famous for its sauerkraut dishes, and you can opt either for a single dish or a full meal based on sauerkraut. Over the past few years, sauerkraut cabbage farmers have adopted a quality process called "from the field to the plate" piloted by Alsace Qualité to guarantee perfect sauerkraut. "Alsace Qualité" certifies top quality sauerkraut that is pleasing to the eye, has a flavoursome taste and a strictly controlled salting and natural fermentation process.
